Contemporary Music and Technology

Is this course for me?

Students will have access to the departments Industry Standard Recording Studios, Rehearsal Rooms and Industry Standard Music Computer Suites including Cubase SX, Logic, Pro-Tools, Ableton, Reason and Sibelius software.

What will I study?

Core areas involve Recording Studio Techniques, Live Sound, MIDI Sequencing, Music Performance, Music Law and Composition.

What can I do next?

Various options are open to you including working within the industry in one of many possible roles - which you will be investigating as part of your professional practice module. You will also be tutored in looking not only at work options but also further study which may lead to postgraduate certificates/diplomas or Masters degree.

What employment does this relate to?

The competition for jobs means that a degree is often just an essential minimum requirement for success. Considerable talent, dedication, committment, motivation and experience beyond this are usually necessary.

How will I be assessed?

Assessment is based on your practical and theoretical work. All assignments have specific hand in dates and are assessed both internally and externally by your awarding body.
