Course programme

You’ll explore a number of themes and styles that have developed by famous artists, such as:

  • Abstract composition: you’ll begin by abstracting and simplifying an image, photograph or still life, creating a new composition
  • Understanding colour: after drawing and zooming-in, you’ll work with colour in a new and less naturalistic way
  • Realistic montage: you’ll produce a range of drawings and learn how elements can be re-composed into a successful painting
  • The landscape of montage: you’ll create monochrome scenes which, when viewed closely, will be composed of diverse shades of contrasting colours
  • Large op-art still life: by viewing objects through grids, you’ll create totally abstract black and white paintings
  • Camouflage painting: you’ll analyse camouflage in everyday life, where objects and figures dissolve into their environment
  • Simultanism: here you’ll intermingle two or more images simultaneously by identifying recurring patterns.
