Contextual Safeguarding refers to the risks of harm posed to children, young people and adults from risks outside the family or immediate care givers. This course is suitable for all practitioners across both children and adult services who have completed Level 1 and 2 safeguarding training.



The course will allow practitioners to understand the term contextual safeguarding, and what this means to assessing and managing risk in this arena. The course will help attendees to consider the different approaches which may be required to keep all identified safe from the harm, contextual safeguarding issues may cause.

To understand the definition of contextual safeguarding and which types of harm are categorised using this definition.
To gain an overview of what current research and statutory guidance advises about working with contextual safeguarding.
To consider the factors which may increase the risk of harm from contextual safeguarding issues.
To understand the challenges of assessing and managing the risk of harm posed by contextual safeguarding issues.
To appreciate the importance of multi-agency working within the context of contextual safeguarding and how to involve other relevant agencies as appropriate to the assessed risk; for example, Planning, highways, environmental health, leisure services and transport organisations.
To understand the impact of contextual safeguarding on; the victim, their families, communities and practitioners.
To learn different approaches to managing the risk of actual or likely harm in order to safeguard.
To consider your organisations response to contextual safeguarding issues.

This course is aimed at Designated safeguarding leads/Officers, safeguarding champions and all individuals who work with children, young people and adults who may be at risk of exploitation.

Level 2 safeguarding knowledge

A phone call/email will be sent out to determine if the course is right for you. Details of how to book the course will be given and when payment is made a further confirmation email will be sent. A few days before the training an email will be sent with the Zoom link information and any further documents required for the course.
