The Counselling Children & Adolescents Level 3 Course is designed for people who wish to gain an understanding of the role of a Child and Adolescent Counsellor and will help students to gain a good understanding of how to counsel children and adolescents in general day to day environments.

The Course Includes the Following Units:-
Unit 1 – Understanding the Relationship between Counsellor and ClientThe following topics are covered: Listening skills; Vocabulary of Counselling; and The Initial Interview.
Unit 2 – Child Counselling SkillsThe following topics are covered: Active listening; Observation; Opening up and sharing experiences; and Children’s emotions.
Unit 3 – An insight in to Child DevelopmentThe following topics are covered: Babies from birth to twelve months; Children from twelve to eighteen months; Children from eighteen to twenty four months; Children from twenty four to thirty six months; Children from thirty six months to fifty months; Children from fifty months to five years; Children from five to six years; Children from six to eight years; Children from eight to twelve years; Children between twelve to sixteen Years; Antenatal; Prenatal; Postnatal; Accidents; Breakdown of relationships/marriages; Culture; Environment; Learning Difficulties; Loss or Bereavement; and Behaviour.
Unit 4 – Behavioural Psychology and Fears and PhobiasThe following topics are covered: Behavioural Psychology; and Fears and phobias.
Unit 5 – Child AbuseThe following topics are covered: What is Physical Abuse?; Accidental injuries; Non-accidental injuries; What is Emotional Abuse; Sexual Abuse; Protecting a child from Sexual Abuse; and Neglect.
Unit 6 – BullyingThe following topics are covered: What constitutes Bullying?; Feelings; Who is affected; The Victim; and The Bully.
Unit 7 – Grief & BereavementThe following topics are covered: Typically normal grief; Inhibited grief; Delayed grief; and Chronic grief.
Unit 8 – Dysfunctional FamiliesThe following topics are covered: Deficient parents; Abusive parents; Physical Abuse; and Alcoholic parents.
Unit 9 – Play TherapyThe following topics are covered: Toys and Play equipment; Feelings; and Imaginary environment.
Assessment:
You will be assessed on coursework which is detailed in the course materials. Most coursework consists of short paragraph answers to set questions. Your work can be sent back to your course tutor by email or by post.
