For those wishing to gain a professional qualification in Counselling, this course responds to the needs of practicing and aspiring counsellors for a qualification which develops knowledge and skills. It will provide evidence of achievement to employers and clients whilst gaining experience through a work based learning programme.
The course is aimed at those who work in a helping capacity either through employment or voluntary work. Successful students will gain a professional qualification which will meet the needs of employers, and give access to higher levels.
You will learn many skills which you will be able to practice in a work based learning environment within the second year of the course. You will also get the chance to practice your skills in voluntary services such as P2B, Derwentside Mind, Cruse and many other local agencies.
How will I be taught?
A combination of lectures, group work, work experience, tutorials and practical workshops.
When will I attend?
1 day a week
How will I be assessed?
Formal written tasks, group presentations, case studies, independent learning and observation.
What do I need?
- Students must be 21 yrs of age
- Relevant Counselling Level 3 qualification demonstrating completion of 120 hours training
- Demonstrate the ability to study at Foundation Degree Level
Students who are not counsellors should be participating in voluntary or paid jobs which will give them opportunities to practice interpersonal communication skills before enrolling.
Mature students with no formal qualifications may obtain a place through credit for past experience learning.
