Course programme

Meets the needs of people who are required to coach and counsel others in the work place. Some elements of counselling will naturally involve building and maintaining trust. The key issue in counselling is in guiding the 'client' in setting their own agenda and in reaching a satisfactory outcome with regard to their issues. Linked to this process, coaching may be involved in clearly establishing new skills, techniques or behaviours which lead to and maintain new levels of work performance. Some emphasis is placed on dealing with 'Human Issues' in the work place since these are often the root cause of much poor performance.

Because of the essentially practical nature of both coaching and counselling processes, the course makes use of participative 'Realplay' exercises and video feedback so that participants receive focused and direct positive feedback on their performance.

After attending this course participants will be able to:
  • Use counselling techniques in the work place
  • Apply appropriate empathy & rapport skills
  • Evaluate and respond to others
  • Build trust
  • Focus on coaching objectives
  • Utilise the five roles of the coach
  • Plan and design a coaching session
  • Give useful feedback
  • Run coaching & counselling consolidation meetings
  • Define and commit to a Counselling Skills Action Plan
