Counselling Skills - Level 3

Course ID:
PC01074

Academy:
Health, Social Care & Early Years

Introduction:
This course is designed for people who are involved in some way with helping others. It aims to provide an opportunity to develop generic counselling skills which may be applied in a variety of contexts. The qualification raises the alert regarding the need to apply skills within an ethical framework. It also offers a potential progression route to the Advanced Diploma in Counselling course.

This one year part-time course lasts for 3.5 hours per week and will be held at Preston College, Fulwood Campus, St Vincent`s Road, Preston, PR2 8UR.

Course Content:
The course is accredited by the awarding body ABC and will facilitate the acquisition of a defined range of counselling skills which will be effective in many work roles where interactions between people occur. It will also facilitate the student`s understanding of the importance of using counselling skills ethically and within B.A.C.P`s Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

It will facilitate the students` understanding of the theory behind the Person-Centred Approach.

It will promote the development of self awareness as it is not possible to help other people reassess their lives without having looked hard at oneself.

It is important that the students know that the qualification does not entitle them to practice counselling professionally.
