About this course
Candidates will normally have completed NCFE Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills or have had previous counselling skills experience and/or training e.g. minimum of 36 hours counselling skills training. All candidates will be required to attend an interview prior to commencement of the course, complete a 500 word assignment & provide a reference. Minimum age 23.

Course Overview
This course aims to introduce essential counselling theory and raise awareness ofprofessional issues for the developing practitioner. Ideal for people seeking to enhance their functional role by the use of counselling skills (nurses, social workers) and those people wishing to consolidate their skills and knowledge in a counselling context. The course has ongoing assessment, moderation of portfolio and a short question examination.
Course Structure
The programme is delivered over one year, for one evening per week on a Tuesday from 6.30pm 9.30pm.
Qualification Aims
To enhance a functional role (eg nurses, social workers). To provide progression route to the NCFE Level 4 Diploma in Counselling after which candidates can seek BACP accreditation as a counsellor.

Assessment will be made using
- On-going tutorials utilising the personal journal as a base
- A portfolio of evidence
- External assignment externally marked
