Course programme

Students must complete units 1-8 of the Diploma in addition to Units 9-12 and either Unit 13 or Unit 14 listed below.

Unit 9: Characteristics and contexts in creative media production (18 x Level 3 credits - 90 GLH)

Unit 10: Engaging with an audience in creative media production (18 x Level 3 credits - 90 GLH)

Unit 11: Preparing for progression in creative media production (18 x Level 3 credits - 90 GLH)

Unit 12: Specialist study in creative media production (18 x Level 3 credits - 90 GLH) Students must achieve one of the two optional units below: either

Unit 13: Extended project in creative media production (36 x Level 3 credits - 180 GLH) or

Unit 14 Extended project in creative media production (36 x Level 4 credits - 180 GLH)


Level 3 Diploma: A L2 Diploma with Pass grade or 4 GCSE at grade A-C Level 3 Extended Diploma: A L2 Diploma with Merit grade and GCSE English and Maths; or 4 GCSE including English and Maths at A-C


Units 1 - 7 of the Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology will be internally assessed and internally moderated against the assessment criteria for those units. Unit 8, the final unit of the Level 3 Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology, will be internally assessed, internally and externally moderated against the assessment and grading criteria for those units. Unit 8 is graded Pass, Merit or Distinction and determines the overall final grade for the qualification. To achieve a Merit or Distinction grade, a student must meet all of the assessment and grade criteria in the respective categories in full.

Units 9 - 12 of the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production & Technology will be internally assessed and internally moderated against the assessment criteria for those units. Units 8, 13 and 14 will be internally assessed, internally and externally moderated against the assessment and grading criteria for those units. These units are graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Performance in Unit 8 determines the overall final grade for the Diploma. Performance in Unit 13 or 14 determines the overall final grade for the Extended Diploma. To achieve a Merit or Distinction grade, a student must meet all of the assessment and grade criteria in the respective categories in full.

There is no compensation on the basis of performance in Unit 8. To achieve a pass in any Unit, all assessment criteria must be met. Failure to meet assessment criteria will lead to referral. Students are allowed one opportunity to redeem a referral.

Students gained a BTEC level 3 Diploma or Extended Diploma can go to employment or progress onto HE level to study a HND, Foundation Degree or BA in Creative Media Production.
