The music department has its own building equipped with a music production suite, two rehearsal/recording rooms and a recording studio control room.  There are many opportunities through the year to provide technical support for live performances by the performing arts courses as well as produce gigs both on and off site. In addition to your main programme, you will study English and maths. Depending on your grades on entry, you will study either Functional Skills or GCSEs English and Maths (one per year).

Course programme



The Creative Musician Diploma Level 3 course is designed to give you a solid base for work in the music industry or progression to a higher education course. It covers a wide range of skills in music and music technology including band performance, sound recording, music for moving image, composing and music production techniques. The emphasis of the Creative Musician Diploma is on practical skills in both music technology and music performance underpinned by the academic knowledge that will provide the basis for a successful career in the music industry.


The music department has its own building equipped with a music production suite, two rehearsal/recording rooms and a recording studio control room. There are many opportunities through the year to provide technical support for live performances by the performing arts courses as well as produce gigs both on and off site. In addition to your main programme, you will study English and maths. Depending on your grades on entry, you will study either Functional Skills or GCSEs English and Maths (one per year).


You will complete the 90 Credit Diploma in your first year and continue to the Extended Diploma in your second year.

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs (grades A*-C) or satisfactory results in a relevant Level 2 qualification, and an audition to demonstrate musical ability at grade 4/5 or equivalent.

Course Progression

Progression to higher education courses in music technology or popular music, such as the Foundation Degree or BA (Hons) in Popular Music at Colchester Institute.

Our term starts the week commencing 5th September 2016,
however you may have different start dates depending on the course.
You will receive the details of your first day over the summer period,
