UCB's School of Hospitality, Food and Events Management is a leading provider of innovative undergraduate programmes in Culinary Arts Management; with well developed links with industry guiding the design and delivery of the programmes.

Restaurant and catering facilities at UCB mirror and often exceed the best the industry can provide.

Both the FdA and BA have a compulsory 48 week placement after Year One.

Former students are now employed as Head Chefs, Sous Chefs, Restaurant Managers and in food and beverage sales and marketing positions, in event catering, catering recruitment and in many other positions.

Placement Information
Your course has a compulsory placement .

Employers are looking to recruit staff with the right combination of skills, experience and specialised knowledge. Irrespective of which level you study, you will be at a major advantage when applying for a job if you have had some real experience of the working environment.

All our courses include opportunities to get valuable work experience, and the majority of these are real jobs with real responsibilities.

In total, around 2000 students undertake some type of work experience each year, with the Industrial Placement Centre arranging the majority of these. Staff from the Centre work very closely with students on an individual basis, in order to find the best match between their aspirations and the requirements of the placement provider.

Work starts a year before you are due to go on placement, you may wish to organise your own placement, which is always possible, whichever you decide we will work with you on a one to one basis, ensuring it's the best option for you.

There are a range of opportunities on offer including the UK, Channel Islands, Ireland, Europe and North America. In addition, if you are from overseas you may wish to return to your home country.

Most of the establishments we work with have taken students from the College for many years, so they fully understand what's required from the placement period.

Students at the College start their placements in either February or during the summer, depending on their course. Everyone gets a visit during the placement period, unless they are in a one-off remote location. If this was the case, we'd stay in touch with the student through email, fax and telephone communications.
