This 1-day course will explore the scientific rationale underpinning the management of muscle tendon unit dysfunction. The theoretical component of the course will cover the current concepts relating to the following areas: Muscle and tendon anatomy, biomechanics, and physiology. Muscle and tendon pathology. Muscle and tendon 'healing processes'. Current evidence with regards to muscle tendon unit rehabilitation, in particular the use of stretching in the prevention and management of muscle tendon unit injury, the use of eccentric exercise and functional rehabilitation strategies. One day workshop
This 1-day course will explore the scientific rationale underpinning the management of muscle tendon unit dysfunction. The theoretical component of the course will cover the current concepts relating to the following areas:
- Muscle and tendon anatomy, biomechanics, and physiology
- Muscle and tendon pathology
- Muscle and tendon ‘healing processes’
- Current evidence with regards to muscle tendon unit rehabilitation, in particular the use of stretching in the prevention and management of muscle tendon unit injury, the use of eccentric exercise and functional rehabilitation strategies.
The practical components of the course will covers the following areas:
- Mobilisation techniques for the management of muscle tendon unit injury
- Functional rehabilitation exercises for the management of ‘common peripheral muscle tendon unit’ injuries such as hamstring strains, Adductor strains, Quadricep strains, Achilles and patella tendonopathies, lateral elbow teninopathies, rotator cuff tendonopathies.
The course will be approximately 60% theoretical and 40% practical, and will place a strong emphasis on exploring the issue of evidence in relation to the concepts and practical concepts that are covered. Comprehensive course notes will be supplied.
