Ideal for complete beginners or for those wanting to go back to basics. This short course will introduce dance techniques using a variety of disciplines including Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz styles.

About this course
Acquire an understanding of the fundamentals of modern dance
Recognise and use basic footwork

Demonstrate greater body awareness with more confidence in co-ordination and linking movements together.
Please wear clothing that does not restrict your movement and allows you to adapt to changes in your body temperature. Tights, leotard or sports clothing that does not restrict movement will allow your tutor to see your work more clearly.
Jazz shoes/sneakers or similar no outdoor shoes please. Thick cotton socks or sports socks can be used for barre work and elements of the warm-up.
Jock straps should be worn by men. Students to tie their hair back if it is long for their own saftey and comfort. Jewellery should be removed and mobile phones switched off please at the start of the class.
With exercises in Ballet, Contemporary and Jazz dance techniques leading to basic routines. The course is physical, it is tutor led and you will have the opportunity to work as a group and in pairs. You will be encouraged to work in your own time to perfect the work but there is no formal requirement to do so.
HEALTH CHECK
You may or may not be asked to participate in rigorous activity from time to time. Please consider whether you could do this, if you are in any doubt consult a medical practitioner.
As part of the course content, your tutor may record your image for initial and ongoing assessment purposes. You are entitled to decline to participate in the recording of your image.

Course programme
This dance class includes elements of ballet, contemporary and jazz dance styles and techniques. Each class will include a tutor led group warm-up with the possiblity of some barre work to improve strength, flexability and co-ordination. Travelling combinations across the floor are used to work on technique as you move from one move to the next whilst covering areas using dance and as the course progresses a chance to perform a routine in small groups at the end of the class.
