Course programme

This three week sewing course will give you everything you need to improve your professional sewing and garment making skills. Through a combination of discussions, practical group exercises and one-to-one consultations, you will explore different construction methods and the laying and cutting of commercial multi-sized patterns. You will also learn about different methods of inserting components such as invisible or lapped zips, and be introduced to the cutting and making up of stretch fabrics such as jersey.

You will take away a half scale (size 12) skirt, child’s top, cotton lined dress, jersey top, bias skirt (size 12) and other samples for reference.

The course includes:

  • Looking at different needles and threads suitable for fabric types
  • Standard stitches
  • Seaming curved edges
  • Straight edges & gathered edges together
  • Various seam types including: French seams & flat fell seams
  • Simple buttonholes
  • Topstitching
  • Trimming work & pressing
  • Cutting and assembling a classic lined dress
  • Skirt vents & splits
  • Cutting & assembling jersey leggings

Level:

Beginners – some sewing experience with either a domestic or Industrial machine would be advantageous. No other experience necessary.
