Delegation, Motivation & Feedback
Course content
This one day course is packed with practical tips that really work. This course does not spend time looking at historical theories of motivation etc - but focuses on what works in "real life".
As part of the analysis of what works in "real life" participants will be encouraged to share their own personal experiences and ideas.
Practical skills are best learnt by practising them in a safe environment where you can experiment with different approaches. In order to practise the skills participants will work in small groups of 3 and will actually practise Delegating and also practise Providing Feedback on Performance. Each person will benefit from the detailed feedback they receive from the others in their small group. Participants will also benefit from having the opportunity to observe closely how the other members of the group approach each task and compare this to their own approach.
Relevant extracts from 2 videos will be viewed during the day - through these delegates will see how tricky situations could be dealt with.
Specific areas covered include:
- Analysing the top 5 methods that each participant adopts as their general management style - and making sure they use these to their advantage
- Delegation by Results or In Detail - which is best?
- What and How to Delegate
- Techniques that avoid you having to check everything
- How to guide the delegation by appropriate use of questions
- When and when not to get involved in assisting
- What if Trust is an issue?
- Avoiding staff giving the work back to you
- Analysing the top 5 methods that each participant adopts in relation to Delegation
- Key Methods for providing constructive feedback
- 3 different types of mistakes and how to react
- How to improve specific areas of work in staff who are otherwise good performers
- How to deal with an emotional response from your staff
- Analysing the top 5 techniques that each participant will adopt when Providing Feedback
- Analysing what motivates yourself
- Analysing what motivates your staff
- Analysing the top 5 techniques that each participant will adopt when motivating their staff
During the course participants will design both a Delegation Checklist and a Checklist for Providing Feedback.
Participants have the opportunity to complete a Personal Workbook to record how techniques relate to them personally.
Participants also receive a 1 page 'wallchart' summary of the topics covered.
The "Top 5" Techniques explored during the day for each of: Management Style, Delegation, Providing Feedback and Motivation will be on one single Summary Sheet - this sheet will be extremely helpful in enabling participants to focus on the changes they wish to make following the training.
