Course programme

Teaching is in small classes, with an emphasis on interactive problem solving and case studies.

Each day will cover the following topics:

Day 1
  • The principles and benefits of DoE approaches, compared to one-factor-at-a-time (OFAT) investigations
  • Experimental design techniques and interactive demonstration of DoE software packages (Design Expert 8 and ProSim)
  • Case studies: analytical method validation (conventional vs DoE approach)
  • Industrial analytical method validation using DoE
Day 2
  • Screening and optimisation of microbial fermentations
  • Case study: fermentation process screening
  • Case study: fermentation process optimisation and scaleup
  • Protein refolding, stabilisation and formulation: structural and environmental parameters that impact on maintenance and stabilisation of protein structure and activity
Day 3
  • Case study: primary product recovery by microfiltration
  • The application of factorial design in high throughput scale-down bioprocess development: examples in fermentation and cell culture
  • Experimental planning and DoE for chromatography
  • Discussion forum

A social networking event will be held for delegates and speakers.
