A course to develop your drawing and painting skills which allows you to develop your own personal response to the subject, experimenting with mark making techniques, tonal studies and compositional ideas. You will explore the process of making paintings in both oil and acrylic paints, starting with drawings to explore ideas through tonal arrangements and composition. These compositional ideas will aid as ‘working’ drawings to allow you to have more control over your process and confidence to experiment when working towards making a finished painting.

About this course
- draw and paint from observation
- build a composition using a variety of drawing and painting approaches
- use different painting media i.e. oil and acrylic paint to make a painting
- apply a colour system to create stronger paintings
- select and explore suitable subject matter.
All basic drawing and painting materials will be provided, however if you have favourite paintbrushes or a canvas you want to try out, please do bring them along.

Practical work will involve drawing and painting from observation using a variety of materials including charcoal, acrylic and oil paint. There will also be demonstrations, individual guidance, group discussions and handouts.
