You will experiment with a range of printmaking techniques and methods that help to broaden your printmaking skills. You will explore making screen prints and drypoint etching plates of your own design. Your tutor will be able to help you to develop your ideas and designs and at the end of the course you will have produced a portfolio of stunning prints. You will create a portfolio charting the progress of your printmaking with accompanying reflective written work. Your final piece of work will be reflective of the methods and ideas explored on the course.

About this course
The course is suitable for learners looking to expand their understanding of printmaking methods and who would like to learn about some techniques that can be carried out at home with or without a mini press. During the course, students will experiment with different techniques in order to develop a more personal style of printmaking.
Although not essential, it is advisable that learners have attended a previous printmaking course and understand the basics of using registration techniques to create finished prints.It is recommended that you have the ESOL Skills for Life Entry Level 3 Certificate or a good level of numeracy and literacy – as you will need to produce a portfolio of work. You should also be dexterous (able to hold and use equipment).

How will I learn?
You will learn by doing. There will be demonstrations and one-to-one tutoring to guide you through your work.
How will my progress be monitored and assessed?
You will be continually monitored and assessed by your tutor and you will produce a portfolio of prints.
Progression opportunities
You can progress onto NCFE Level 1 arts courses in a choice of subjects. Your tutor will be able to advise you.
What equipment or materials will I need to provide?
All materials will be provided. You will need to pay a small charge each week for the materials that you use. The estimated cost of this will be £2.50 per week. You should also bring a pen, pencil and sketchbook.
What other support is available?
Help with numeracy or literacy is available. ICT drop-in sessions are available during term time and are open to all learners. Additional support can be provided for students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities. Learner Support Funding is available for equipment, childcare and travel to learners who qualify.
