Applicants will be considered from the following groups: Students with the equivalent pass in two subjects at Advanced level supported by passes in four other subjects at GCSE (grade C or above) Students on Foundation Diploma, National Diploma or AVCE/GNVQ Level 3 courses Students without these qualifications will also be considered and applications are welcomed from mature students, candidates with professional experience and students with non â€"standard qualifications who are able to demonstrate creative ability evidenced through a portfolio at interview. Application to the course is through UCAS Route B.

Course summary:
The Foundation Degree in Applied Art has been developed in collaboration with the University of Sunderland.

This is a two-year full time programme with a guaranteed progression onto a final top up year, allowing students to achieve a BA (Hons) in Fine Art.

Course content:
The course is made up of modules of study, planned and structured to give students a systematic, coherent and cumulative experience.

The programme is delivered through formal lectures, demonstrations, individual and group projects and work based learning.

Cross discipline links are made with other Foundation Degree courses to encourage the cross fertilisation of ideas.

South Tyneside College has excellent facilities with well-equipped spacious studios, computer labs, printing facilities and a well-stocked library and this is further supported by the extensive facilities accessible by all Foundation Degree students at the University of Sunderland.

Course structure:
The course will allow students to explore a range of traditional and contemporary media gaining practical skills, knowledge and conceptual abilities required for careers in independent creative practice and the community, public and voluntary sectors.
The Foundation Degree in Applied Art is studio based with an emphasis on project work. Work-based and work-related activities will help students acquire professional awareness and prepare them for employment as creative arts practitioners in the community.

You will gain a Foundation Degree in Applied Art, awarded by the University of Sunderland.

Progression opportunities:
The two year programme is geared to preparing students for employment however for those students wishing to continue their studies, a further year of study at the University of Sunderland will allow students the opportunity of gaining a BA Hons Fine Art degree.
Employment opportunity is available in adult education, leisure classes, outreach activity and community arts events.
Other career opportunities, normally requiring further study, include arts therapy, teaching and education.
