Overview
This course shows how to implement DFHSM (HSM) so as to improve overall storage performance, availability and reliability in both DFSMS and non-DFSMS installations. Both DFHSM and DFSMShsm are included in the course. It also includes ABARS which is becoming increasingly important in the disaster recovery arena.

Course objectives
On completion of this course, attendees will have a thorough knowledge to be able to plan, implement and control an HSM installation and be able to use the ABARS feature in the installation's disaster backup/recovery plans.

By the end of this course you will have learned
How DFSMShsm fits into the OS/390 system; how HSM utilises the hierarchical storage media to make best use of the online DASD resource.

Storage Administrators and Systems Programmers. People involved with disaster recovery plans which use HSM will also find the course useful.

Pre-requisites
An understanding of storage management and DASD concepts is necessary, this may be obtained from the course 'DASD Management'.
