Course programme

Content

With its international recognition and awards, this course includes specialist taught units and research-based study which give focus to colour imaging technology and its application in the communications and graphic arts industries.

The course has strong links to the colour reproduction industry and to research organizations, and you are encouraged to undertake projects in collaboration with such bodies. Projects typically involve identifying a colour imaging problem and developing a solution.

Closely linked to the Faculty's research interests in digital colour imaging and reproduction technologies, the MSc provides an excellent route to employment and career enhancement, or to further study and research through MPhil or PhD registration.

The taught programme covers most aspects of colour imaging at an advanced level and includes the systematic study of image capture and digital printing. You will develop skills in colour measurement, research methods, programming for colour imaging and colour management.

You will be encouraged to present your work at international imaging conferences, and sponsorship is available for the best projects each year.

An MSc by Project is also available in which you can complete a single research project.

Structure

Phase 1

In the three modules in Phase 1 of the course an outline of current knowledge in colour science and imaging, and its application to current problems, is presented. The perspectives developed in these modules create the context for the development of subsequent stages of the programme and establish the core themes in colour reproduction. On successful completion of these three modules, participants will have acquired 60 credits and may choose to exit with the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Digital Imaging.

Phase 2

In Phase 2, participants take a series of specialist modules with a total credit value of 60 credits. This element of the programme includes module options and the opportunity to develop individual interests.A participant who successfully completes a total of six modules and gains 120 credits may choose to exit from the programme with the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Imaging.

Phase 3

In the final phase of the course, leading to the award of MSc, participants expand on the particular interests that have emerged during the earlier phases of the programme in a Major Project. The project also has a credit value of 60 credits.

Dedication
