Overview
A degree analysing digital culture that explores the consequences and meaning of technical innovations in social media, economics, politics, social life and more. Research techniques for analysing data in relation to digitisation and the internet are also taught (no knowledge of programming required). The only single honours degree in digital culture and internet studies taught by a dedicated team in a unique location in central London.

Courses are divided into modules. Each year you will normally take modules totalling 120 credits.

You will have the opportunity to study abroad in the second semester of the second year. Partner universities currently include:

Optional Modules There are no optional modules for this course in Year one.

Year 2

In the second year, half of the teaching is from required modules and half is from a range of optional modules.

  • Digital Methods II (15 Credits)
  • Critical Debates in Digital Culture (15 Credits)
  • Digital Foundations II (30 Credits)
Optional Modules

Additionally, you will choose 60 credits from a wide range of Digital Culture optional modules, each worth 15 or 30 credits, which may typically include:

  • Representations of Cultural Heritage (15 credits)
  • Digital Texts, Digital Publication (15 credits)
  • Management for the Digital Domain I (15 credits)
  • Subcultures and Communities in the Digital World (15 credits)
  • Online Network and the Politics of Social Media (15 credits)
  • Introduction to Programming (15 credits)


Year 3

In the final year the teaching is a mixture of required and optional modules.

  • Digital Foundations III (30 credits)
  • Digital Culture Thesis (Dissertation) (30 credits) OR
  • Digital Culture Project (Dissertation) (30 credits)
Optional Modules

You will also choose 60 credits from a wide range of Digital Culture optional modules, each worth 15 or 30 credits, which may typically include:

  • Contemporary Trends in Digital Theory (15 credits)
  • Management for the Digital Domain II (15 credits)
  • Big Data, Culture and Society (15 credits)
  • Internship in Digital Culture (15 credits)
  • Cultural Analytics (15 credits)
  • Digital Advertising & Marketing (15 credits)
  • Digital Journalism (15 credits)

You can also select further credits from optional modules within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities (approved by the course leader) to bring your total for the year to 120 credits.
