It is desirable that you have studied art before taking this course. Entry to this course requires a good general education and is dependent on a successful interview (where you need to bring examples of art and design work, and show an interest in this area). You will normally need to have at least one of the following:

The OCR Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Art & Design is for students who require a general art and design based qualification. The course is practical and students will learn how to produce a range of work through a variety of assignments. The assignments will be based on the activities of people working in the art and design sector.

The most important thing you need is a lively and enquiring mind, a growing interest in art, craft and design, a willingness to explore new ideas and an ability to communicate your ideas effectively. There are very few areas of modern living that do not involve the role of an artist or designer, from the products we buy to the entertainments we view.

The course introduces you to the employment area you have chosen and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification. Through a variety of workshop practices, project work and visual studies you will learn about the key elements of art and design.
