Course programme

Please refer to the 16 to 19 study programme document to learn more.

Typically attendance will be required for two days.
The qualification for this course will be a Brickwork Diploma Award.

The qualification is accessible to everyone who wishes to continue their personal development in English and Maths and has a record of continual self achievement. We are looking for a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard towards self improvement in these areas. (Employers in the construction industry are expressing the need for higher levels of literacy and numeracy skills).

The qualifications are aimed at people wishing to learn some skills in bricklaying, to progress on to becoming skilled in their chosen trade, or to progress through an apprenticeship and work towards becoming a master craftsman.

Another important feature of the Diploma’s is that it provides a progression route towards achieving a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at level 2. Units within a Diploma route relate to the units within the relevant construction NVQ. NVQ in Trowel Occupations Level 2 is for either new entrants to the industry or mature applicants working within the construction industry wishing to become trade qualified. An NVQ requires a candidate to be working in the industry to provide evidence to support its achievement.

Level 1 allows candidates to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in Bricklaying.

It covers the following skills
