ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
The qualification is accessible to everyone. We are looking for a positive attitude and a willingness to work hard. Two GCSEs Grade E or above to include English, Maths GCSE at grade D or above, plus a formal interview with written and practical elements included to assess suitability and motivation. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate that high levels of attendance will be achieved.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is for those wishing to embark upon a career in Wood Occupations. Attendance will normally be up to four days each week of the 36 week academic year, though timetables and attendance patterns may vary. The course integrates Foundation in Carpentry and Joinery, and Key Skills.

Contribute to Providing Working Platform
Preparation of Portable Power Tools
Maintenance - Use of Woodworking Hand Tools
Use Basic Wood Jointing Techniques

Enhancement
The Diploma Construction Award in Carpentry and Joinery, as a full time course will be completed alongside Key Skills.
Work Experience
Work placements and any work experience are highly desirable but subject to availability. All candidates are expected, and encouraged, to do their best to gain purposeful work experience during their course. We will do all we can to assist in finding suitable opportunities. The timetable is designed to give all new entrant candidates the opportunity to complete one day of work experience within the academic week.
Extra Activities
The College can offer a variety of additional qualifications and activities beyond the core course requirements. All students are invited and encouraged to complete additional qualifications.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
Generally there is a practical and academic assessment for each unit. It will be your responsibility to update your record book which will show evidence of your experience and achievements. You must complete all the occupational units in order to obtain the full qualification. The course is structured and delivered by continuous assessment.
WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
Note: Entry to Specialist levels is through the satisfactory completion of Level 1 together with a reasonable report from your Tutor, achievement of the proposed key skill, along with a good attendance record.

- Understand the principles of construction in each unit
- Develop practical skills as required by the industry
- Progress to specialist Wood Occupations qualifications in either Carpentry or Joinery
- In the event a learner gains employment through the course there may be the opportunity to undertake an apprenticeship programme.
