The Diploma in Police Interpreting (DPI) is a professional qualification for those who work, or would like to work, as interpreters for Police forces in the UK.
The DPI replaces the Metropolitan Police Test as a newly accredited qualification recognised by Ofqual.
Level: first degree-level qualification in terms of language skills required.

The Diploma in Police Interpreting consists of five units and the structure is as follows:
Unit 1: Interpret consecutively two-way in a Police context and take a Police statement
Unit 2: Interpreter simultaneously - whispered - from English in a Police context
Unit 3: Provide a Sight Translation from English in a Police context
Unit 4: Translate a Police statement into English
Unit 5: Translate from English in a Police context
Synopsis of Court System in England and Wales - Criminal law – Police Procedures Consecutive and Simultaneous Interpreting Sight Translation Written Translation Statement Taking
Those who wish to prepare for the Metropolitan Police Interpreting Test Those who wish to qualify as Professional Interpreters and be included in the National Register of Public Service Interpreters.
Excellent command of English and another language, both in verbal and written forms. Interpreting experience not essential No previous qualifications required.

The DPI replaces the Metropolitan Police Test as a newly accredited qualification recognised by Ofqual.

- For registration on the National Register of Public Service Interpreters (NRPSI)
- For interpreting work with UK Visas and Immigration and the National Crime Agency
- For work in courts through the MoJ Framework Agreement (by registration at Tier 1 with Capita TI)
