This course will allow you to gain a Level 2 Diploma in Carpentry and Joinery.

Course content

You will cover:

• Know and carry out safe practices in construction
• Quantities and communicating with others 2
• Building methods and construction technology 2
• Know and carry out first fixing operations
• Know and carry out second fixing operations
• Know and erect structural carcassing
• Know and carry out maintenance and repairs
• Set up and operate circular saws

Key Skills will also be studied.

Wear suitable protective boots during all practical sessions

Assessment

The Diploma is assessed in college workshops and classrooms. There is a practical assignment and each unit has a written test. Learners are required to undergo an external knowledge test. Key skills will be studied and assessed by portfolio and written test.

Progression

After successful completion of the course students will be able to continue their studies on a Level 3 Diploma In Site Carpentry. Alternatively, after suitable industrial experience and the completion of a portfolio of evidence, students will be able to apply for an NVQ at Level 2. They will also need to complete further job knowledge tests and a Health and Safety Test (CSCS).
