About this course

Diploma in Tourism Management CTH aim to focus on the training needs of new entrants to the hospitality, travel and tourism sectors with international recognitions. It will also broaden the student’s employment and career prospects. This program helps students to develop the skills to confidently deliver authentic indigenous experiences and other tourism ventures locally, nationally and globally. During the period of study students will develop a solid knowledge of tourism business operations with effective leadership and management quality. The course covers the fundamentals of tourism industry including tourism operation, customer service and destination analysis. 

English Proficiency

Those studying for the qualifications of the CTH are offered a structured learning process, encompassing both the theoretical and practical aspects of the industry, integrating the various subjects, together with a clearly defined pattern of career development through progressive grades of membership. The qualification conforms to the relevant level descriptors as developed by Ofqual (UK Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation). Level 4 Diploma in Tourism Management requires a minimum of 835 learning hours. Students can achieve the guided learning hours in combination of face to face classroom interactions, attending seminars, visits to tourism businesses, self-study and group study as well as research work. Students will be required to attend a certain number of lecture hours to support their studies, and will receive guidance to complete the learning hours.

1. Travel and tourism operations: (Assessed by – Examination)This unit covers assessing the tourism sector and the factors that affect participation in tourism, delivering travel and tourism services and tour guiding services.

2. Travel and tourism supervision: (Assessed by – Assignment)This unit covers managing a travel agency, managing tour provision and managing staff performance.

3. Travel geography: (Assessed by – Examination)This unit covers understanding the features of travel geography, patterns of domestic and international tourism and the nature of tourism destinations.

4. Destination analysis: (Assessed by – Assignment)This unit covers understanding the principles of destination analysis, carrying out a destination audit and assessing the factors that affect tourism destination development.

5. Finance in tourism and hospitality: (Assessed by – Examination)This unit enables students to gain an understanding of main sources of finance, to understand the relationships between cost volume and profit, to carry out specific costing practices and make recommendations on prices and interpret business performance using recognised tools. It is not an in-depth accounting unit, and this should be borne in mind when planning and executing the delivery

6. Customer service management in tourism and hospitality: (Assessed by – Assignment)This unit covers the management of customer service operations, managing the resolution customers’ queries and complaints, analysing the effectiveness of customer service in hospitality or tourism and understanding the use of quality systems in the tourism and hospitality industry.

7. Global tourism and hospitality: (Assessed by – Assignment)This unit covers understanding the size and scope of the global tourism and hospitality industry, the food and accommodation sub-sectors it, the issues and influences affecting it and the growth of global tourism and hospitality brands.


Additional information

Students completing this qualification should be able to demonstrate their ability as independent students. They will be required to participate in class giving opinions and views based on complementary readings. All participants are encouraged to analyse and solve case studies based on real and simulated business situations for training purposes. Assessment of students' work will be carried out by a range of methods including closed book written examination, investigative assignments, presentations or work assessment. Students’ work will be measured against the specified learning outcomes and assessment criteria of each unit.
