By exploring the South London Botanical Institute you will get to know how plants are and have been studied for the last 100 years. There will be practical sessions inside and a garden tour.NOTE: This course will be held at South London Botanical Institute,323, Norwood Road, Tulse Hill, London SE24 9AQNearest station - overground Tulse Hill (5 mins walk) buses 68, 322 and 468 pass the Institute.Access arrangements:The ground floor and gardens are wheelchair accessible but the toilet is not.

About this course
-Identify a range of ways of how botany was and is studied- appreciate a range of resources useful to follow up your studies.
You need to bring appropriate outdoor clothing including sturdy footwear. You are welcometo bring cameras and hand lenses if you like. Please consider the weather and bring water, a hat and sun lotion, orwaterproofs as required. Please bring a packed lunch. You can purchase tea, coffee and cake.

- The history of the SLBI and its botanical activities today
-Dried plants – the herbarium collection and its history and use in identification of live plants
-Plant Guides and books -the library as a learning resource
-the SLBI botanical garden- practical identification and plant names
-introduction to microscopes to look at the internal structure of plants.
Talks, demonstrations, practical small group sessions, There will be a guided tour of the garden .
