About the course
The Doctorate in Clinical Psychology has a strong local identity given its partnership with Essex-based trusts, as well as a special link with the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust in London

Essex- and Tavistock-based clinical psychologists make a significant contribution to the teaching, research, placement and other operational activities of the programme

We train clinical psychologists to deliver integrative psychological services by drawing on a wide range of competencies as critical and reflective scientist-practitioners

The hope is that all trainees will later work in Essex or in the East of England region

The programme gives a grounding in a range of psychological approaches and encourages trainees to provide and develop clinical services that are responsive to the needs of service users and the demands of a modern NHS

Course Features
The teaching philosophy underpinning the course is the integration of academic, research and clinical practice learning

You are encouraged to be active participants in your training and to reflect constructively and analytically on the work you are engaged in

Our course has a number of distinctive features:
Optimal training experience
As a programme with a relatively small number of trainees in each cohort, it offers trainees the opportunity to work very closely with the programme team and with one another

Such close working relationships, combined with robust and holistic support systems for trainees’ personal and professional development, provides an optimal training experience and foundation for trainees’ career-long personal and professional development
