Psychology
GCSE - One-year course
This course is for those who are interested in the study of human behaviour, or who would like to study a new subject which leads directly to AS Level Psychology. Psychology looks at a range of aspects of human behaviour, including:
  • Social Psychology - which tackles questions like: why do we obey?
  • Developmental Psychology - for example, how babies bond with their parents
  • Cognitive Psychology - which looks at how memory is organised
  • Biological Psychology - which looks at the interaction between our mind and our body
  • Individual Differences - what makes people react differently e.g. phobias
  • Research Methods - planning and conducting


Careers and Further Studies
Psychology is a useful subject for a number of careers, particularly those that involve working with people. Students have progressed from Psychology GCSE to nursing, teaching, social work, work in the police and prison service, and many forms of office work. Psychology GCSE is useful as preparation for AS Levels in related areas such as Sociology, Biology and Business Studies.

General Entry Requirements
It is expected that students pursuing a programme of GCSE courses will have already achieved a grade C in at least three GCSE subjects and an average GCSE points score of 3.5.
