About this course

Entry requirements- Master degree in a related field or equivalent degree at the graduate level. Entry requirements – Master´s degree with 240 ECTS credits (300 creditos méxicanos / individual admission evaluation for candidates with equivalent academic and professional background). 240 ECTS credits minimum entry requirement / 300 creditos méxicanos Degree requirements – Coursework, dissertation: 180 ECTS credits / 225 creditos méxicanos – credits workload duration of programme: three (3) full study years.

Universidad Azteca, Chalco, in Mexico, and UCN Universidad Central de Nicaragua in Managua, agreed to conduct a double degree programme at the doctoral research level, offered to international students in Spanish, English and German study and dissertation languages utilizing the various educational partnerships and branch campuses of the two partnering universities across Europe , Asia and the Americas.



The programme offers students various entry points at the doctoral level and earns two doctoral degrees by one dissertation.



The two study systems in Mexico and Nicaragua correspond in terms of requirements for the doctoral research degree, minimum admission requirement is a M1 Master degree or four years degree with a workload of 240 ECTS credits (300 mexican creditos), whereby, in case of a M2 Master degree (300 ECTS or 375 creditos) 60 ECTS credits (75 creditos) can be transferred into the period of instruction of the doctoral programme.



Degree requirements are 60 ECTS in period of instruction (transfer of credits from Master degree possible), 60 ECTS in research and dissertation project, 60 ECTS in writing the dissertation-thesis and its defence either on branch-campus or online.



The double degree programme offers students the greatest possible flexibility and opportunity to earn two distance degrees at the doctoral level.



The UCN Universidad Central de Nicaragua is explicitely accredited by CNU and Act of Parliament and Presidential Decree as fully autonomous university and hence recognised internationally.

Universidad Azteca de Chalco is recognised by the Federal Ministry of Education SEP with RVOE to award degrees e.g. in the study area of Administración de Empresas (Business Administration) as covered by this double degree programme. The PhD in Management is registered with the RVOE (accredited programmes) system of the Mexican federal government Secretary of Public Education.

Universidad Azteca on the international level is listed with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), International Association of Universities under the list of universities of Mexico and the International Handbook of official directory Universities of accredited universities published by the United Nations.

UCN is listed under Nicaragua.

Both universities are recognised and accredited in each country of origin.

Tuition for the double degree programme is 6,500 EUR (for the complete programme, if completed within 3-4 years).

In case of transfer credits and overlapping coursework and dissertation, the accelerated mode enables candidates to complete the programme within 1 - 2 years.

This programme permits double degree students of UCN and Universidad Azteca, upon the successful fulfilment of the conditions, the opportunity of receiving by a double degree diploma both, the degree of UCN at the Doctor of Philosophy level, and the award of the corresponding Doctor en Filosofía en Administración by Universidad Azteca.



The Double Degree shall only be awarded after the student has completed his/her studies at the both institutions, including the research project and dissertation thesis project, and has additionally fulfilled the following requirements:

- completion of the courses of the study curriculum; and

- completion of a doctoral dissertation thesis; and

- successful completion of the oral or written dissertation defence exams.



Dissertation is based on empiric research (quantitative or qualitative). Data and Publications generated during the Master-Thesis can be used by means of deeper and broader research for the dissertation-thesis, however, the utilisation of a Master-Thesis as Dissertation by “Re-Make” is excluded.



Students registered as degree candidate at Universidad Azteca shall have access to the Double Degree Doctorate. Students shall be screened for eligibility for admission as Double Degree candidates by Universidad Azteca. Candidates’ previous studies have to include a minimum of 240 ECTS-Points and a degree on Master’s level. The home institution shall respect the admission requirements and enrolment constraints of the host institution.
