About this course

You will be asked to prepare an audition monologue and take partin a workshop/audition process. A GCSE in English and Drama (A-C)is an advantage but there is some flexibility over entrancerequirements. Enthusiasm and previous experience working on playsor in drama groups will serve you well on this course.

Is this course for me?
This course is suitable for those with some previous experience
either in school plays, youth theatre work, musical or dance shows.
The main focus of this course is acting technique but it also
covers contemporary theatre, film and radio acting, classical
theatre, physical theatre, singing, dance, improvisation, devising
and theatre in education units.
What will I study?
You will learn how to create a character, how to prepare
monologues for audtions, develop material for devised performances,
and work in depth on a range of plays for public performances.
National Award students work in site specific performances, main
stage performances, and will go on a short tour to secondary
schools in their Theatre in Education work in the second term.
Throughout the course you will learn to analyze plays and
performances and will create a written logbook for each production
describing how you created your roles and what you have
learned.
What can I do next?
This can lead to further education at University or drama
school. Lewisham College has an excellent reputation in courses at
this level and our students have progressed to degree courses or
other areas of higher education.. Former students are currently
studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama, ALRA,
Goldsmiths College of London University and Rose Bruford. This
course will prepare you for drama school auditions.
This can also lead to employment in:
arts administration, teaching in the post-16 sector, theatre
making or TIE (Theatre-In-Education) performance.
What are the entry requirements?
You will be asked to prepare an audition monologue and take part
in a workshop/audition process. A GCSE in English and Drama (A-C)
is an advantage but there is some flexibility over entrance
requirements. Enthusiasm and previous experience working on plays
or in drama groups will serve you well on this course.
How will I be assessed?
Assessment is includes assignments, class work, group work and
oral presentations, projects. Students also have regular meetings
with a personal tutor to discuss progress and to help plan studies.
Additional support and guidance is also available from the guidance
team or our Study Buddies.
What will it cost?
If you are under 19 and a home student, in most circumstances,
you don't pay any fees. However, you will need to find this out
when you apply.
