Exam Board: Edexcel
Additional Information: Students should have a Grade B or above in GCSE Drama or be able to demonstrate ability and interest in the subject, e.g. participation in productions, theatre groups, etc.
COURSE OUTLINE
The AS course has two papers
Unit 1: Exploration of Drama and Theatre
This unit introduces students to the content of plays written for the theatre. They will learn how to analyse plays in a variety of ways through active and practical workshops so that they become familiar with the way written plays can be interpreted for realisation in performance.
Unit 2: Theatre Text in Performance
This unit offers students the chance to demonstrate skills in a performance environment. The knowledge and understanding gained during the study of two plays in Unit 1 can now be applied with a view to delivering a performance to an audience. Candidates are required to perform a monologue and to perform in a full scale production in front of a live audience and external examiner.

In year 2 of the course students will take the following modules:
Unit 3: Exploration of Dramatic Performance
Candidates are required to create a unique and original piece of theatre which will go on tour in local schools.
Unit 4: Theatre Text in Context
This involves the detailed study of one set text and one prescribed historical period of theatrical development.
