An outdoor sketching course designed to take advantage of the summer weather and make use of the diversity of London’s open spaces as a rich resource of inspiring and exciting subject matter for drawing and painting.

About this course
- Build up a sketchbook for research
- Develop methods of gathering visual information
- Feel comfortable with drawing outside in public spaces
- Make use of a variety of drawing materials to sketch outside in different locations
- Look at, and take inspiration from, the work and practice of a variety of artists.
You will need to bring a sketch book (A4 minimum), and a collapsable or portable stool might be useful. Some basic drawing materials eg pencils, rubbers, sharpeners will be provided but you may wish to bring some of your own, such as watercolours, pastels, coloured pencils or a camera.

Course programme
We will use a variety of drawing materials to explore the landscape of the city; drawing and painting from observation and collecting information in sketchbooks.
With reference to landscape artists, we will experiment with different approaches to interpreting the landscape.
Each week we will meet at a different location, such as River Thames, Hampstead Heath, King’s Cross Canal, Regent’s park, The Zoo, Kew Gardens and Camden Market.
