PROGRAMME CONTENT/STRUCTURE
This programme is designed for those trainees aged 16 - 18 who are looking to re-enter education or move into employment by investigating suitable career paths and training opportunities.

The programme focuses on four vocational areas: Hairdressing, Construction Services, Food and Drink Service and Health and Social Care.

In Hairdressing, trainees will work towards a NVQ Level 1 qualification. As part of the course students will also be studying ICT, Literacy and Employability and Personal Development. A full uniform and kit is supplied to all students free of charge at the start of the course. Additional items to complement the kit will be supplied on completion of the course. This will be a one year course with the intake in September only.

On the Construction course students will study units of the Construction Crafts BTEC Level 1 course, studying Brickwork & Carpentry. In addition to this, Literacy, Numeracy and Employability and Personal Development will be taught. Site clothing and a tool bag will be supplied at the beginning of the course.

On the Food & Drink Service course students will be working in the Chefs Restaurant and Bar in the college. Learning about customer care, waiting at tables, serving food, preparing hot and cold drinks. Studying units from an NVQ Level 1 in Food & Drink Service. In addition to this Literacy and Employability and Personal Development will be taught. A uniform will be supplied.

On the Health and Social Care course students will study units of a level one Health and Social care qualification, covering health and development, health and safety and health and wellbeing.
PROGRESSION/CAREERS OPPORTUNITIES
On successful completion of the Hairdressing qualification students can progress onto an NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing within Croydon College. Also available are Apprenticeships in Hairdressing, although applicants will be required to be employed in a salon and will be visited by a tutor to be assessed in the work place.

On successful completion of the construction course students can progress internally in the college onto higher level construction courses or into work or apprenticeship although applicants will be required to be employed and will be visited by a tutor to be assessed in the work place.

On successful completion of the Food & Drink Service course students will be able to progress onto higher level Hospitality Courses in the college or into employment.

On successful completion of the Health and Social Care course students will be able to progress onto higher level Health and Social Care and Childcare courses.
