Course programme
Working with young children is hugely rewarding and a lot of fun. It can also be very challenging, and it’s a fast-moving sector. We’ll help you develop the skills and understanding you need to apply for great jobs and to perform well in them.
We place the child at the centre of this course. You’ll explore child development and learning, and the importance of play; and learn about child health and well-being – looking at issues such as diversity, safeguarding and children’s rights. You’ll also study how to research childhood.
Although working with children is very hands-on, it’s vital that it’s built on the proper academic foundations. We’ll examine the link between theory and practice and how, put together, they produce high-quality childcare. Through this, you’ll also develop transferable skills which will appeal to employers, including research and presentation skills, and problem-solving.
Our helpful, enthusiastic and experienced tutors will support you throughout the course. Besides learning in small classes, you’ll develop your ability to work independently and in study groups.
Nowadays, you need a formal qualification to work in the early years sector. Standards are continually rising, and government policies and initiatives are always changing. We’ve designed this course to help you thrive in this fast-changing environment and to meet the needs of employers. When you graduate, you’ll be able to apply for interesting and relevant jobs, and equipped to perform well in the workplace.
We’ve aligned this course to the requirements of the former Children’s Workforce Development Council and the Early Years Professional Framework.
