About this course
You may enter at Level 2 if you have at least 4 GCSEs at grade D or above, preferably including English or a Distinction grade at Level 1, with satisfactory tutor and placement reports. Students progressing from Level 1 to 2 must demonstrate appropriate skills in literacy to be able to work at Level 2.

Is this course for you
This one year course is for you if you would like to start a career in child care. It leads to a Level 2 qualification that will enable you to progress to Level 3 training either through further study at college or via work based learning.

What will you study
The course consists of 7 units covering children's care, development and learning plus practical training. Work experience is a compulsory part of this course and you will attend a professional child care setting two days per week alongside your college based timetable. During your course you will work in a range of settings.
How will you be assessed
Assessment is by a combination of written assignments and one examination. You will also produce an evidence portfolio of your work on placement, and receive reports from your placement supervisor.
Additional information
In order to keep courses as up to date as possible, content is occasionally changed. You will be informed of any content changes at interview. Key Skills/Functional Skills - you will be expected to undertake these at the appropriate level. Due to the work experience element of this course you will be required to undergo the Criminal Records Bureau enhanced disclosure check to ensure your suitability to work with children.
What do you do next
Students who achieve an overall A or B grade at this level may apply to progress on to study Child Care at Level 3. Those who prefer to head straight for the workplace will find a range of opportunities through work based learning, such as NVQs in Children's Care and Learning and Development, to enable you to achieve a Level 3 qualification.
