Course programme
You will learn about all aspects of children's care and education through theory lessons in college. The units you will study include: Introduction to Communication, Introduction to Equality and Inclusion, Safeguarding the Welfare of Children and Young People,Supporting positive behaviour and Paediatric Emergency First Aid.
Additionally you will have the opportunity to develop your functional skills in English and Maths as these are important skills needed in the workplace.
- 4 GCSEs at D or above, one of which must be English Language
- A keen interest in child care
- Good references and a successful interview
- A good level if spoken and written English, as well as good communication skills
- An enhanced Disclose and Barring Service (DBS) check
Ideally you will be working or volunteering in a nursery, creche or children's centre. You will be interviewed about your knowledge and skills prior to full enrolment.
You will be assessed by written coursework, by an observation of your methods in the workplace, and sometimes by a task set by the examining board (CACHE).
Upon achievement of this qualification, learners can progress into various job roles in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors, such as Nursery assistant, Classroom assistant or pre-school assistant.
You could also progress onto the CACHE Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications and other Level 3 qualifications relating to Child Care.
