Course Title
European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

Is it for me?
The aim of the programme is to provide a broad understanding of information technology and is an excellent way to improve your knowledge about computing. This course is ideal for developing and building on your basic IT knowledge and skills. This course is suitable for those who are currently employed or pursuing employment in IT.

What do I need?
A qualification or award demonstrating an introductory knowledge of computing. For level 1 this may include New Clait and to join Level 2 you should have completed level 1.

What will I study?
You will gain a better understanding of the following modules:
If you are studying Level 1 ECDL you will study:
Module 1 - Basic concepts of IT
Module 2 - File Management
Module 7 - Communication (Internet/email)
If you are studying Level 2 ECDL you will study:
Module 3 - Word processing
Module 4 - Spreadsheets
Module 5 - Databases
Module 6 - PowerPoint
Unit E - Using IT (Theory)

Assessment
Assessment will take place throughout the course:
To gain the full award - ECDL - both levels must be completed.
BCS 1 entails - 2 practical and one multi choice online assessment.
BCS 2 entails - 4 practical and one multi choice online assessment
Candidates will also receive an additional certificate for each level achieved

How will I be taught?
You will be taught in workshops supported by a qualified trainer.

Please Note:
This entitles learners working independently using course manuals and/or online instruction. This process is supported by the trainer. Those learners requiring extra support may attend extra tutorials. All learners will undergo an induction prior to starting their workshop to familiarise them with the centres.

What qualification will I get?
British Computer Society - European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL)

Can I go onto further study?
The primary aim of this course is to enable candidates to progress to a higher level qualification. Progression advice will be given at induction and during the course by the course tutor.

Possession of this qualification would indicate a sound understanding and competence in the subject and provide a good basis for recommendation for employment, and can give unit values towards ITQ

What are the career opportunities?
ECDL is becoming one of the most recognised quality benchmarks in IT qualifications, especially in public service organisations (NHS, councils, school administration) and many private sector companies.

Does it include key skills?
Key skills are not offered as part of this course.
