About this course
You will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C or above including Mathematics, as there is a need to interpret graphs and data, as well as carrying out some calculations.

What is this course about?
Economics is the study of how society produces, distributes and consumes resources and wealth. It tries to give an explanation to the reasons why we make and buy different things, and also how the government manages and runs the economy. The AS and A2 years study related topics, but with differing levels of complexity. Both years are divided into two halves;
- Microeconomics, the study of individual markets and their workings
- Macroeconomics, the study of the workings of the whole economy
At AS : The Economic Problem, the market mechanism, market failure, national economic performance and the role of government.
At A2 : Business economics, labour markets, distribution of wealth and income, plus further study of market failure and national economic performance to include the European Union.
How will my work be assessed?
At AS:
- January exam on Microeconomics,
- June exam on Macroeconomics.
At A2:
- January exam on Microeconomics,
- June exam on Macroeconomics

What knowledge do I need to succeed?
No previous knowledge of Economics is required, however an interest in current affairs and recent history is an advantage, as is the willingness to engage in discussion and debate

What are the lessons like?
- A range of teaching and learning styles is used during the course. Formal lessons are combined with discussion, case studies, task-based learning, interactive use of ILT and video, all pitched at a level appropriate to the age and experience of students.
- The basic notes for the course are all printed as worksheets.
- Keep up-to-date with current affairs and undertake wider background reading show interest in the subject and try to challenge yourself
- Complete all homework on time and to the best of your ability
- Learn from what you have done, review your work and understand how each topic builds on preceding ones
