Suitable for: Safeguarding Children and Young People is an ideal qualification for those who work with children and young people who require specific training in this area. Reference is made to the Health and Social Care National Occupational Standards and is an important unit for all learners aiming to work in health or social care
About this course
This qualification has been developed in response to the Every Child Matters: Change for Children agenda. The qualification is supported by the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC), the Training and Development. The minimum age for entry to this qualification is 16 Criminal Records Bureau (CRB)checks: it may be necessary for trainees to undergo a CRB check if they are proposing to work with young people and vulnerable adults.

Course programme
In this unit learners will consider the care available for children and young people who need to be looked after. They will explore the different types of care available and the roles of a range of relevant people and organisations involved in safeguarding and caring for children and young people.
They will also explore the systems and procedures used to look after and safeguard children and young people when their parents are unable to do so.
Learners will gain an understanding of the risks to children and young people of abusive and exploitative behaviour and the strategies used to safeguard them from this behaviour.
