The Award in Education and Training qualification is an introductory, knowledge-based teaching qualification which can be undertaken by individuals who are not yet in a teaching role (pre-service), or are currently teaching (in-service).

The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is an accredited qualification on the QCF framework, regulated by Ofqual. The qualification was supported by the Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) prior to its closure in July 2013.

This programme provides the knowledge that will enable you to:

Understand your own role, responsibilities and the boundaries of those in relation to teaching;
Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches for the context of flexible learning in your specialist area;
Demonstrate session planning skills;
Understand how to provide inclusive sessions which motivate learners;
Understand the use of different assessment methods and the need for record-keeping.

Please Note: The learner will be required to complete a practical Micro-Teach as part of the qualification.

The Education and Training Award Level 3 QCF course is divided into four comprehensive units:

Unit 1 - Understanding Roles, Responsibilities and Relationships in Education and Training

  • Understand the relationships between teachers and other professionals in education and training

Unit 2 - Understanding and Using Inclusive Teaching and Learning Approaches in Education and Training
Learning Outcomes:

  • Describe features of inclusive teaching and learning
  • Compare the strengths and limitations of teaching and learning approaches used in own area of specialism in relation to meeting individual learner needs
  • Explain why it is important to provide opportunities for learners to develop their English, mathematics, ICT and wider skills
  • Explain why it is important to create an inclusive teaching and learning environment
  • Explain why it is important to select teaching and learning approaches, resources and assessment methods to meet individual learner needs

(Please note: Unit 3 is aimed at preparing you for the micro-teach and as such it doesn’t have any assignments attached. Unit 3 is still required to complete the course.)

Assessment

The learner will complete a portfolio of evidence by successfully completing all of the activities at the end of each unit. This portfolio is assessed by your tutor who will mark and sign off each completed unit of study.

Upon successful completion of the 12 credits, students will receive a certificate of achievement from the awarding organisation, IQ.
