Electrical and Electronic Engineering is one of the most expansive and energetic of the engineering disciplines. Electrical and Electronic Engineering is one of the most expansive and energetic of the engineering disciplines. The apprenticehsip course is designed to give the learner the relevant training and education required to become a successful employee in the electrical and electronic engineering industry. This apprenticeship will develop the skills, knowledge and competence you will need to carry out the duties of an Electrical/Electronic Technician in the workplace.



What will I learn?
Electrical and Electronic Engineering Diploma Level 3 core units may include:

  • Engineering Health and Safety

  • Engineering Principles

  • Principles of Electrical and Electronic Engineering


Optional units:



  • Mechatronics Systems Principles and Fault Finding

  • Power Supply, Analogue and Digital Circuit Principles and Fault Finding

  • Electrical Power Control Principles and Practice

  • Advanced Mathematics and Science


As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills/GCSEs in English, maths and ICT. Learning the principles and practices needed to work in this area will require learners to take part in formal lessons, tutorials, practical work and assessments.


What are the entry requirements?

4 GCSEs (grades A* – C), or equivalent, including English, maths and science. Candidates without formal qualifications but with relevant industrial experience may also apply.



What next?

Higher education opportunities may include the HNC in Electronics Engineering at Colchester Institute. Career pathways may include team leader or supervisory roles. This apprenticeship would be suitable for anyone who is looking to work as an Electrical and Electronic Engineer, Engineering Maintenance Technician, Engineering, Operative, Marine Engineer, Marine Engineering Technician.
