This apprenticeship could see you working for a maintenance or construction company or you may decide to be your own boss. So if you have an interest in how things work and like solving problems then this could be the apprenticeship for you. Apprentices who qualify as electrical installers will help to fit, test and repair the electrical circuits and wiring found in homes and businesses. This is an interesting area to work and your duties could include: Working from plans and drawing installing cables and enclosures. Connecting lights, switches and socket outlets. Fitting electrical equipment e.g. air conditioning. Installing consumer units and distribution boards. Wiring fire alarms and security systems e.g. CCTV. Working with new environmental technologies e.g. photo voltaic systems. Inspecting and testing new and existing installation plus fault finding.

About this course

Entry criteria varies depending on the framework that you are studying and the needs of the employer, however a good level of secondary education is expected and many employers expect you to have maths and English GCSE at a C grade or above. Employers also look for skills like motivation, good interpersonal skills, good communication skills and a willingness to learn and will set their own specifications depending on the role.

  • AAT Accounting Certificate (Level 2) or Accounting Diploma (Level 3)

Additional information

The duration of an apprenticeship will vary depending on the needs of the employer but you will be required to complete qualifications during the period usually with set study days. As part of the apprenticeship, there will be a number of specific skills that your employer or college tutor will monitor and observe to prove that you reached a certain level of understanding.
