About the course:
This is a one year award aimed at people already working in the engineering industry and for those who are intending to enter the industry. The course is a combination of theory sessions and practical sessions undertaken in purpose built electrical workshops and labatories. The award starts with basics of electrical engineering and moves through a succession of exercises that enables the learner to aquire competence in a range skills appropriate for a first year apprentice. Regular checking and assessment of learners will be carried out in order to maintain progress.
Course Content:
This Engineering award consists of three common units that all candidates will study plus a further three optional units dependant on their vocational area. Common units: working safely in an engineering environment, working efficiently and effectively in engineering and using and communicating technical information. The optional units will include both the installation and maintenance of electrical and electronic equipment and systems, wiring and testing electrical equipment and circuits, forming and assembling electrical cable enclosures and support systems, assembling and testing electronic circuits. The following key skills may also be studied; application of number level 2, communication level 2 and information technology level 2.
Equipment Requirements:
City College supply all the technical equipment to complete the award. All learners are required to supply their own work shoes / boots suitable for workshop activities and adequate paper, pens, rulers, calculators etc. to enable theory work to be completed to the required standard.
Assessment:
Assessment is by the completion of a number of practical assignments to prove competence at the required level, the completion of underpinning knowledge questions is also required.
Progression:
On completion of the PEO Level 2, learners will be able to return for the BTEC National Certificate.
Additional Information:
If you are on a qualifying means tested benefit the tuition fees for some courses can be reduced, however you will still need to pay for Exams and College costs. You must claim tuition fee remission by providing evidence before enrolment.
