Description
The objectives of the Electrical and Electronic Engineering programme are:
To provide students with a solid background in the design and analysis of Electrical and Electronic Systems.
To build computer modelling and simulation skills using EEE industrial standard software such as: Matlab-Simulink, PSpice, SILVACO, PSCAD, and PSIM.
To build engineering skills required when working in industry, including the ability to break a complex engineering problem into component parts, to design, simulate and build solutions, and to be able to prepare and understand technical reports.
To build critical awareness regarding ethical, environmental, and socioeconomic aspects of an EEE challenge when working with an industry, through introducing professional codes of conduct (e.g. the IET Rules of Conduct).
To nurture computer modelling skills by encouraging students to develop their own software with the final purpose of analysing realistic civil engineering problems.
To build critical awareness of the advantages and disadvantages of different design approaches when facing a civil engineering problem, including aspects such as environmental constraints, economy or health and safety.
The programme covers a wide range of topics in EEE from Semiconductor Technologies to Power Systems and Power Electronics, and from Telecommunications to Analogue and Digital Designs, and from Control Systems to Programming and Microcontrollers.
EEE course at Swansea University is proud of having a very hands-on structure, which makes our graduates very desirable to industries. As an example, our students in their second year undertake a module known as “Group Design Exercise”. In this module, groups of 4-6 students design and build autonomous “micro-mouse” robots. All stages of the process (including circuit design, Microcontroller programming, etc.) are done by the students under supervisions of academic staff and our technicians.
