EFR PRIMARY CARE (CPR) course content
Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR) teaches you how to deal with emergencies that are immediately life threatening. You will focus on primary care through a combination of knowledge development, skill development and realistic scenario practice to make sure you have the knowledge, understanding and confidence to use your skills. Here are the Primary Care (CPR) skills:
PRIMARY CARE SECTION
- Scene safety assessment
- Communicable disease protection
- Primary assessment
- Rescue breathing
- Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Conscious and unconscious choking
- Obstructed airway management
- Serious bleeding management
- Shock Management
- Spinal injury management
Secondary Care (first aid) content
covers injuries or illnesses that are not immediately life threatening or when local EMS is unavailable or delayed. You focus on secondary assessment and first aid through knowledge development, skill development and realistic scenario practice. The Secondary Care (first aid) skills are:
SECONDARY CARE SECTION
- Injury Assessment
- Illness assessment
- Bandaging and splinting for dislocations and fractures
- we also include Defibrillator training and emergency oxygen use

also included are reference sections on the following topics First aid kit assembly, Allergic reactions, Bruises, Burns, Chemical burns, Cuts,
Diabetic problems, Dislocations and fractures, Electrical injuries, Eye injuries, Heart attack, Seizures , Sprains, Stroke , Frostbite, Heat exhaustion,
Heatstroke, Hypothermia, Dental Injuries, Poisoning, Insect stings and spider bites
There is a final exam at the end of the course a pass mark of 75% is required and once the course is completed it is valid for 2 years
You will also participate in an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training component, learn how to help a conscious choking adult and have an emergency
oxygen use orientation.
