Course programme

At the end of the course delegates should be able to:

· State the legal requirements for emergency planning in the workplace

· Identify foreseeable emergencies that could occur. In particular, fire, bomb and environmental emergencies are covered

· Identify key personnel who have responsibility for emergency planning and

· implementation and evaluate their responsibilities

· Develop site plans, which identify the main hazards on site and emergency equipment

· Develop procedures, which will help ensure safe action in the event of an

· emergency

· Produce a list of key personnel who need to be contacted in an emergency

· Identify training and communication requirements for effective emergency

· planning

· Introduce procedures to enable effective communication with the media during and after an incident

· Set up procedures necessary to recover from an incident in the short and long term

*COMAH = control of Major Accident Hazards Regulations 1999.

(These regulations detail specific requirements for emergency planning at sites designated as major hazard sites).
