This short programme provides an overview of how engine management systems maintain effective control dependent on vehicle and operator demands.
Programmes are individual and stand-alone, it is not necessary to complete all modules but it is recommended that they are studied as follows: Basic Electrics, Multi-meter Use, Electronic Ignition, Electronic Fuel Injection, Engine Management, EOBD and Diagnostics as each programme builds on the knowledge gained on the previous sessions.
The complex systems of ignition and fuel injection now employed by vehicle manufacturers require careful monitoring and adjustment.
An understanding of engine management gives technicians the ability to interpret results gained from On-board Diagnosis (OBD).
Programme content: Electronic control principles; Sensor signals; Actuator signals; Basic ECU operation; Adaptive strategy.
The Automotive Department has excellent workshops and classroom facilities, plus dedicated diagnostic facilities.
